The Cottage
Edwardstowe-East, furnished holiday cottage is reputed to be part of the oldest house in Shaftesbury, a short walk from the world famous Gold Hill (pictured). Our guests consistently rate us as "Excellent" and "Outstanding" across a number of booking sites. With free on-site off-road parking, the self-contained cottage has all that you need to explore the delights of the ancient hill-top town of Shaftesbury or make it your base to get to know Dorset and surrounding counties and the hundreds of amazing visitor experiences available..
A top scorer with guests
We are proud of the high ratings we get from the vast majority of our guests - they appreciate the attention to detail, location and care we put into making their stay special and memorable.
(Every 18 months or so we do get the 'guest from hell' and boy do they just go off on one - however we take the view 'full disclosure' - so no surprises. The cottage is 'what it says on the can', or in this case advert!)
Elizabeth of York
Elizabeth of York (11 February 1466 – 11 February 1503) was Henry VIII's mother, a lesser known figure to many. Henry as we all know dissolved the abbeys (Shaftesbury Abbey 1539) and monasteries and so we can only trace the majority of Edwardstowe's history back to the time of this, most other records were then destroyed, as Henry plundered the religious orders. This portrait we are fortunate to own is a replica of the one hanging in the National Portrait gallery
